The city of contrasts
Bodrum is a fascinating city of contrasts. On one hand, you are presented with an ancient city, traces of which are to be found throughout the city. And on the other, a decadent playground for the rich and beautiful. Its location on the Bodrum Peninsula has helped it grow into a sailing destination, with visitors favouring Bodrum’s shores for the warm but not humid climate.
Open fronted bars come alive at night along the beach, most popular of which is the globally renowned Café del Mar. The Marina and Yacht Club are found on the other half of town, as well as more shops and restaurants.
To visit Bodrum is to step into a different time with its many ancient sites, including the Bodrum Amphiteatre and Windmills. Bodrum Castle, otherwise known as the Castle of St Peter was built in 1402 by the Knights Hospitaller and is the most prominent landmark in the city. It also houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, of interest to those who love sailing and diving holiday.
Experience an authentic Turkish Bath at the Hamam or visit the mud baths. The more athletic could try a bit of windsurfing in nearby Vass, though diving and boat tours are the more popular water sports available.
