City of history and festivity
Edinburgh manages to combine both ancient and modern in a uniquely Scottish atmosphere. Watched over by the imposing castle, the city mixes medieval relics, Georgian grandeur and a powerful layer of modern life with contemporary avant-garde. Medieval palaces occupy the same spaces as the best of modern architecture; Gothic churches thrive alongside a throbbing night-life centre. The city is also host to great restaurants, shops and an unequalled programme of city festivals throughout the year. Hogmanay, the Scottish New Year, kicks off the festivities, which culminate in summer with the Tattoo, the International and the Fringe Festivals, amongst many others. As the city can get crowded during festival season, check with dnatatravel.com for advanced bookings and the lowest fares to Edinburgh.
The best way to see all the city has to offer is on foot. Walk along the Water Leith and see Leith or the Stockbridge and Canonmills sections for some of the city’s historic sites. You could also walk into one of numerous museums and theatres for a uniquely local view of the city.
Edinburgh's climate is most comfortable for the traveller from May to September. Be prepared for sudden changes however, as the city’s weather is always changing and visitors should expect both sunshine and rain, whatever the season.
