A breathtaking mix of east and west
Goa, like most of India, has successfully combined the best of its culture with a tantalising dash of Western influences. This, coupled with stunning beaches, attract an estimated two-and-half million visitors to the city each year. Labelled India's most charming state capital, Goa is undoubtedly an unforgettable holiday destination.
The city is famous for its beaches, ancient temples and churches, and the Goan carnival. Stop by the Anjuna Beach for a glimpse of the magnificent Albuquerque Mansion, home in the 1960s and 1970s to the hippies who flocked to Goa on a ‘pilgrimage’. It is also the venue for a popular flea market held each Wednesday. In the nearby village of Arpora, two colourful Saturday night bazaars are held in the non-monsoon seasons.
The adventurous may like to try water sports on offer at Colva beach such as parasailing, though just lazing on this stunning stretch of sea on a hammock is also a highly recommended past time. Diving season is between mid October and mid May, with an abundant marine life as well as shipwrecks as your incentive to put on a wetsuit. You could also try out several discos and pubs that have sprung up around the city or visit some of its natural wonders.
