Hawkwell House is a former manor house built in the early 19th century, when it became fashionable for wealthy Oxford residents to build “gentlemen’s houses” on the fringe of the city centre. Incorporating various modern extensions, the hotel is laid out over two buildings; Hawkwell House and Elm House, also a former family home converted to hotel use in the 1970’s, which is nestled to the rear of the site. The original Hawkwell House overlooks landscaped gardens to the front of the site as well as large lawns to the rear and provides the Iffley Blue restaurant, conference areas and 62 bedrooms. Elm House, former home of the Antarctic explorer Francis Bickerton, provides a stylish 15-bedroom annexe. The large site of circa 2.2 acres provides extensive grounds and ample car parking for up to 110 cars.
