This charming little hotel scores a double coup. Not only is it just a stone’s throw from a small beach but it’s close to Dubrovnik, too. It’s perfect if you’re looking to mix up time in the sun with days spent exploring the backstreets of the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. Sitting firmly in the pebble/crystal-clear water camp, the beach is just a minute’s stroll across the road from the hotel and looks out across the pretty Bay of Stikovica. Down by the water's edge there’s a restaurant and a pizzeria, and the beach backs onto wooded slopes dotted with cypress trees and pines. It’s quiet. It’s peaceful. And it’s incredibly picturesque. Dubrovnik, meanwhile is about 8 kilometres away and the Villa Lanterna has a shuttle bus (for a local charge) that runs there and back five times a day. What’s more, there’s a 24-hour ‘house’ taxi with reduced rates for all residents should you wish to spend evenings out in the old town. As to the hotel itself, it’s a small privately-owned guesthouse made up of just 15 rooms. It’s fairly modern – built in 2003 – and is decorated with contemporary furniture. There’s a range of different room types and we’ve chosen the apartments as they’re kitted out with handy kitchenettes complete with microwaves, toasters, kettles and fridges.
