Rylstone Manor was originally built as a gentleman's residence in 1863 and remained a private residence until 1923. The Manor is of Victorian proportion and incorporates a blend of Gothic Tudor and Georgian influences which reflects its unique charms both externally and within. The exquisitely decorated interior offers a warm and intimate atmosphere where you are encouraged to just relax and enjoy its unique surroundings. Rylstone gardens are situated on the cliff top overlooking the Shanklin Sandown bay and are just a short walk from the beach front Shanklin Chine and the Old Village with its thatched shops and cottages. Why not sit back and relax in the comfort of the drawing room this beautifully decorated room is the perfect place to sit and enjoy your afternoon tea. An inspirational room for you to sit and enjoy the view of the Rylstone Gardens and maybe write those post cards. Or just relax and enjoy a good book with your after dinner drink. Sit back and enjoy your evening in the warm intimate atmosphere of the bar lounge. The bar offers a warm sociable atmosphere for everyone to gather for a drink and a chat or to just sit back and relax with your pre or after dinner drink. Shanklin Town is within a twenty minute walk of the Hotel and offers a good mix of shops and services. Buses to all parts of the Island can be caught from the center of the Town and a train service is also offered to Lake Sandown Brading and Ryde. The Manor offers Private parking for residents and is a good base for those wishing to explore the Island by car. Since taking over Rylstone we have maintained our rating of three stars and gained a silver award from the tourist board. They are recommended in the independent "Good Hotel Guide" every year since 2006. In 2008 they were finalists in Conde Nast Johansens excellence awards for " Most Excellent Value award for UK & Ireland". They went on to win this award outright for 2009. The Hotel is completely non smoking
All our rooms are individually designed and decorated. All are ensuite with either a shower or with a shower over a bath. We have four superior rooms and five deluxe that are available in a combination of doubles twins and single occupancy. Three rooms have views of the Gardens and some with glimpses of the sea through the trees. Our other rooms have views around the hotel which is set in our own gardens. We are not next to any other buildings and are therefore not overlooked by anyone.
We have a comfortable and relaxing lounge and garden patio to sit and relax drinks are available for most of the day. The internet is via our wireless modem but as the building is Grade 2 listed it is not a consistent or strong signal. We have a printer and a fax machine should this be required. We can also store bicycles in our yard at the rear of the hotel. We offer a light snack menu and afternoon tea can be booked at reception for 4 o'clock.
