The Hotel is a great base from which to explore the surrounding area, including the city of Carlisle and the Cumbrian Lake District. Carlisle itself is a vibrant, cultured city with plenty of fantastic attractions to explore. There’s the imposing Cathedral, first founded back in 1122, and Carlisle Castle, a 900 year old medieval fortress and scene of many an historical episode in British history. Hadrian’s wall is also nearby, indeed Petriana, which was the largest fort on the wall, is now buried beneath the village of Stanwix and a section of the outer wall can be found in the Hotel’s car park. Just 15 minutes away is the quaint village of Gretna Green, renowned as the marriage capital of Scotland. The Hotel is also just a 40 minute drive from the Lake District National Park, a haven of breathtaking lakes, soaring mountains, picturesque valleys and even sandy coastline.
Please note, during the period 24th - 30th March 2014 road works will be taking place close to the hotel. Although disruption will be minimal, there may be some audible noise during the day and night.
