Mel and Martin welcome you to the beautiful Exe valley where the Bark House has stood for over 200 years originally for the storage of oak bark used in the tanning industry but now a place where you will receive warm Devon hospitality. The building is set in terraced gardens with a backdrop of wooded hillside ample parking across the road where fields lead down to the river Exe. Inside the Bark House the cosy lounge has comfortable seating and an open fire a small bar for residents and diners and an intimate restaurant. On the first floor there are five bedrooms each differing in size and with its own individual charachter on the second floor a private suite with double bedroom and lounge. Meals are cooked by us and we provide a menu using local meats and fish wherever possible. Bampton has and excellent butcher supplying top quality bacon and sausages for breakfast. Dinner is served at 7pm with drinks in the lounge choose your meal from the menu and wine from a list of personally selected wines from around the world. If you require dinner please reserve your dinner table when you book on line as this would be a great help to us. The Bark House is a small personal establishment where Mel and Martin will help you with your visit. Exmoor North Devon and Somerset offer some of the most fantastic scenary in England with a range of historic sites National Trust properties and gardens to be explored.
This is an old building with cottage style rooms and low ceilings on the ground floor. The lounge and restaurant lead from the reception area and are cosy warm and light. The decor is plain with comfortable seating in the lounge and a traditional restaurant setting. There is a short staircase with substantial handrail to the first floor which has a straight corridor with all bedrooms on the one floor.

Mobility Description:
There are two small steps into the Bark House. Inside there are stairs with a good handrail to the first floor. Doors are a standard size. We are happy to give every assistance possible. The old building is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Dining Facilities:
- Light airy and cosy dining room with a large window giving views across the valley. The restaurant seats 10 people on seperate table of two or up to 14 for a small group. The restaurant doubles as a tea room in the daytime and is open every day except Mondays. Our policy is to buy food locally and cook meals from fresh produce thus we buy on a daily basis and ask guests to book dinners in advance.

Directions:
From Junction 27 roundabout take the A361 west (signed to Tiverton) as far as the first roundabout. Take the third exit (signed for Exmoor via Dulverton) continue along this road for about 7 miles to a mini roundabout take the first exit left (signed for Dulverton and Minehead). At the next junction (about a mile) called the Black Cat Junction go left then straight on signed for Dulverton/Minehead do NOT cross the river. The Bark House is within a mile.;
