A Warm welcome awaits you at The Raby Hunt Inn and Restaurant with Rooms a beautiful Grade II listed building situated in the pretty village of Summerhouse near Darlington County Durham. At the Raby Hunt we intend to achieve a unique dining experience in our comfortable contemporary restaurant which will appeal to all from a quiet dinner for two to that special family occasion. Our menu is predominately British with European influences. We feature fresh locally sourced ingredients and have a good wine cellar that boasts many specially selected wines from the old and new world. Two modern stylish bedrooms offer visitors more time to stay and explore the area or the opportunity to have a great dinner and then enjoy a lovely Raby Hunt breakfast the next morning. The Raby Hunt has two recently refurbished bars and an idyllic outside seating area all are perfect for that casual beer or a glass of wine. The Raby Hunt Inn has always been an Inn since it was built in the early 1800s. Being on an old drovers road to Northumberland and Scotland it originally had ample stables which are now converted into cottages. Originally part of the Raby estate it was also a favouite meeting and finishing point for the Old Raby Hunt many a stirrup cup will have been drunk here and can still be had here in the two recently refurbished bars. Head chef James Close is thoroughly passionate about his food and has lived and breathed every aspect of it from a very young age being brought up in Grove House an award winning hotel run by his mother. Realising his passion for food through many trips to Europe at an early age he has been influenced by their markets traditional restaurants and cultures. James believes in simple ideas and well tried combinations a modern british style using the finest seasonal produce from a strong network of suppliers. Our menu will change every three or four weeks keeping a few favourites depending on the season. We also feature specials.
We very much like the idea of our supplies not travelling far to reach our kitchen. We obtain our meat from a local butcher whose meat has been bred and grazed the fields around us they are then taken to a local abbatoir and not suffered many miles of travelling. Our eggs come from a few sources within 10 miles and are all completely free range and fed on natural foods.
Our vegetables are the same and we also use excess from friends gardens in the summer so cutting down on the food to plate journey. Fish comes from a merchant from the east coast which is only a matter of 30 miles away and is delivered as all the produce on a daily basis. We are an Inn and Restaurant with 2 en suite rooms which are comfortable and modern. The Raby Hunt is an ideal base to explore the lovely Tees Valley Durham City with its Castle and Cathederal and Northumberland.
