Riad Assala, the authenticity in Arabic, is located in old district of the Médina of Marrakech, city created in 1070 after JC by the dynasty of Almoravides. Marrakech was always the more important city of the South and its creation can be broken up into three times: Abou BEKR famous Almoravides war leader in 1062 chooses the site. Youssef Ben TACHFINE his cousin and successor founds the city by transforming the camping of the nomads into a strengthened place called ksar Al Ajar; it builds a Kasbah in stones in the north of the actual KOUTOUBIA and quickly will transform this first construction into citadel. In 1126 it sets up a rampart of 9 km and builds a new palace while creating in the city of the utility public buildings (mosques, Fountains, oratorical etc) the monuments who it sets up will be a great architectural richness and very marked by the Andalusian's influence.

In 1147 Marrakech fall and passes to the hands of Almohades under the impulse of the caliph Abdel Moumen Ben Ali, partisan of the most rigorous Moslem tradition and the most mystic. Its him which inaugurates the great period ostentation of Marrakech who it will increase, urbanize, by the construction of the Kasbah, immense royal district which required the participation of 4000 craftsmen. It completes at the same time the large mosque of the KOUTOUBIA, and Marrakech becomes a true imperial city with a multiple function political, intellectual, military, spiritual, commercial, and artisanal, crossroads impossible to circumvent of the South in constant relationship with the Sahara, the Andalusia, and the Maghreb. It is in the richness of this history that is registered the construction of Riad ASSALA being next to one of the Royal palaces.

It is a building of the end of the 17th century with two Patios of which oldest kept its paintings of origin like its doors of cedar and its fittings, the other Patio offering a deep swimming pool to you.
