Five minutes walk to Seahouses harbour Sharrow is ideally situated for the ornithologists among you. Leave the car on the drive and take a boat trip to discover the variety of birds on the Farne Islands (and a hat for protection!) Puffins breed on islands which have sufficient depth of soil for their nests and you can get up close and personal with them. Bird watching not for you? There are plenty of other things to do. For the historians among you Northumberland offers more castles than any other county in the UK due to its unique position. Visit Bamburgh Castle and you will be in awe of the wonderful views over the sea and countryside. Learn of the history of the building from the exhibits found by the archeologists in recent excavations. Alnwick Castle is within easy reach and the nearby Alnwick Garden is worth a visit. In the summer the scent in the Rose Garden is wonderful! The quirky tree house is definitely worth a visit! Golfers are well catered for with a course only minutes away and several more within easy driving distance - many of them Links courses providing stunning vistas. Walkers too have plenty of choice - the magnificent beaches are often deserted or for the more energetic head west to the Cheviots. The Border towns offer a selection of activities from browsing the mill shops to exploring pele towers castles and battle fields. Visit the restored flour mill at Heatherslaw and take the train to Etal running alongside the River Till. Lindisfarne or Holy Isalnd is one of the most important sites in the history of Christianity. It is tidal so do check safe crossing times. Edinburgh is about 80 miles north - leave the car at Berwick station and take the train. In 50 minutes the centre of the city is yours to explore. The open topped tourist bus is highly recommended as is a visit to the Royal Yacht moored at Leith. Whatever you decide you will be spoilt for choice. (Sorry I cannot accommodate divers.)
The house offers 2 double en suite bedrooms comfortable chairs and a plentiful supply of books and magazines.
