LOCATION:
Located in the mostly hilly land of the Val di Chiana of Arezzo, Monte San Savino is the perfect town for soaking up the medieval atmosphere generated even today, surrounded the city walls and the two gates, Porta Fiorentina and Porta Romana, facing out in opposite directions. The city’s heyday came in the second half of the fifteenth and the sixteenth centuries with the arrival of the aristocratic family of Ciocchi-Di Monte. Not to be missed in the historic centre are visits to the Renaissance-style Loggia dei Mercati, the Town Hall, with cloisters and hanging garden, and the Tower, offering a breathtaking view of the historic centre and the whole of Val di Chiana. Monte San Savino, which is part of the national “City of Wine” association, is nevertheless known around the world for a curious titbit: it won the Guinness World Record for the longest roast suckling pig in the world. This delicacy must be tasted. Just as captivating and evocative is the historic/fantasy modelling exhibition that is held in November: a chance, among other things, to take part in the gathering of the LegioPictorum, one of the most important clubs engaged in spreading this art form, as well as a point of reference for Fantasy Modelling fans.
