Hockmoor House is our 1907 Arts & Crafts home set in a large garden and orchard and edged by our 16 acre smallholding and woods. Originally thatched the house house has distinctive 'eyebrow' windows on the upper floor. With wood floors throughout the house and the adjoining cottage are generously proportioned with lots of light in every room. The self catering cottage is a welcoming and deeply comfortable space with a studio bed-sitting room upstairs and kitchen diner downstairs. The cottage has some lovely original art wifi television and central heating. The rooms all look out onto the gardens and fields and the upstairs has views of Dartmoor in the distance. The bed & breakfast rooms are on the ground floor with views onto the garden and direct access from our front door so guests can come and go easily. Bed & breakfast guests are served breakfast in our huge kitchen dining room. Breakfast specialities include organic porridge with tahini and honey and locally baked organic pain de campagne with home made jams. We're 10 minutes drive from the wilderness of Dartmoor 40 minutes from the South Devon coast and 20 minutes from creative hub of Totnes - voted one of the coolest towns in England. There are beautiful walks 5 minutes away in the 400 acre Hembury Woods which lead to the magical Dart River. We are 15 minutes away from the medieval Dartington Hall which is a world renowned artistic centre set in stunning gardens and which has a rich programme of cultural events. We are also close by Rill Farm which is a centre for a number of yoga and other similar workshops. This is a hot spot for local and organic food - the renowned Riverford Farm Shop is just 10 minutes drive. In Ashburton 8 minutes away there is a great fish deli and bakery and Totnes is full of foody shops cafes and restaurants. We live very informally and with our six dogs and two teenage children we welcome guests who like to share our love of nature and animals.
This is our family home and all our bedrooms reflect our family life and interests each room is full of a variety of original art craft items books and other personal touches that we have accumulated over the years.
