The Angel Inn at Stoke by Nayland... The Angel Inn is a timbered 16th century coaching inn. In 1722 it was purchased from George Evans by John Williams of Tendring Hall and became known The Angel Inn in 1793 when it was let to George Simpson for £18 with a brewhouse stables and two large orchards. Stoke by Nayland in the heart of Constable Country was the inspiration for many of Constables Suffolk landscapes. A village of timbered houses built on wool wealth it sits on top of the Stour Valley with the 120 foot tower of St Marys Church a landmark for miles around ..when the bells of Stoke by Nayland ring all Suffolk stops to listen. To this day The Angel Inn remains a traditional coaching house at the centre of this idyllic Suffolk village offering contemporary comfort and luxury in an historic setting.
With a flat-screen TV free tea and coffee and a hair-dryer each individually styled room also boasts elegant décor. All rooms have a private bathroom and selected rooms in this historic inn have exposed oak beams. As an extra special touch champagne flowers or luxury chocolates can be added as a supplement.

Directions:
Exit the A12 northbound at the junction for the B1059 to Dedham and Stratford St Mary. The junction is approximately 11 miles north of Colchester. Follow the road straight for approximately 4.5 miles and at the top of the hill you will drive into the village of Stoke by Nayland. The Angel Inn lies at the crossroads in the centre of the village.
