Location
Raffles London is situated in the historic Old War Office building, now referred to as The OWO. This iconic structure once served as a residence for notable figures such as Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Haldane. Ian Fleming, the creator of the James Bond character, frequently visited this site, and numerous scenes from the 007 films were shot here. The OWO has a rich association with espionage, having hosted operations for MI5 and MI6 during the 20th century. Nestled in the heart of Whitehall, the building has undergone meticulous restoration and currently houses Raffles London at The OWO.
Room
The design of our rooms reflects a modern take on the classic Edwardian style, harmonizing with the rich history and grandeur of the Old War Office Building (The OWO), which is the home of Raffles London. This exceptional design was conceived by Thierry Despont, renowned for his transformative work on iconic structures, including the Statue of Liberty.
The suites seamlessly blend the allure of heritage and intricate historical architectural elements with Thierry Despont’s distinctive design sensibility, providing ample space and contemporary amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay in this historic area of London.
The rooms and suites at Raffles London at The OWO evoke a sense of nostalgia, skillfully reinterpreted by talented designers and artisans. Each space features bespoke carpets, fabrics, and wall coverings that enhance the influx of natural light, while the custom-designed furniture and lighting prioritize modern comfort. The carpets in the guestroom corridors are inspired by the buildings original floor grills and historic textiles, and the window treatments pay homage to the iconic uniforms of the Horse Guards. Additionally, London perfumer Azzi Glasser has crafted a unique fragrance for the hotel, which is encapsulated in an exclusive range of bathroom amenities. This fragrance is a timeless blend, featuring refreshing notes of Sicilian bergamot, neroli absolute, and clary sage, complemented by the richness of vetiver, cedarwood, and red sequoia wood, all underpinned by the heritage essence of mousse de Saxe and black oudh.
