Over the years we stayed in many B&Bs and preferred those where we could come and go as we pleased and not feel tied to set times for meals and where we could enjoy lazy or active days depending on our mood when we woke up. We tried to model our guest accommodation at Amberton on these principles when we opened in April 2010. To give you maximum flexibility we provide a continental style breakfast for you to eat in your room or on your private deck at the time that suits you best. Your breakfast menu options include freshly baked chocolate croissants Danish pastry croissants rolls salami and cheese a variety of cereals muesli organic yoghurts prunes grapefruit segments chilled orange juice homemade bread to toast organic butter and preserves. Your room is supplied with fresh milk biscuits tea and coffee cafetiere coffee including decaffeinated hot chocolate and earl grey lemon green and peppermint teas for you to enjoy at any time during your stay. Although there are many pubs and restaurants in the village for days when you may prefer not to eat out you are welcome to bring back a pizza or ready meal to heat in your microwave. Alternatively we keep a limited range of microwave meals which you are welcome to purchase. The area around Porlock offers wonderful walking & cycling. In fact you could probably chose to leave your car in our drive for your entire stay and just walk or cycle from Amberton each day without having to repeat any route. We have a gate at the top of our garden leading directly to a bridle way while a 5-10 minute walk down the drive and along the lane will take you to the wooded areas of Hawkcombe and then up to the moor. As keen walkers ourselves and having two springer spaniels we know most of the local walks and will be happy to share our knowledge with you. When time allows we are happy to drive you to the start of your days walk. We offer cycle washing facilities and covered storage
We have two ground floor bedrooms both designed as bed/sitting rooms with a leather two seater settee dining table freesat TV and a small kitchen area with a sink unit kettle toaster microwave and a small fridge. Each room has an en suite shower room/wc and a French door opening to a private deck with a table and chairs where you can enjoy breakfast or an evening meal or glass of wine. Both decks have wonderful views over the village to Bossington Hill and the sea.
We have an iron and ironing board for guests to use if required a small sewing kit for minor repairs shoe shine brushes and torches available for your stroll to the pub or restaurant. We also keep a supply of disposal razors and toothbrushes just in case they are needed. The rooms also have broadband WiFi access. We have a no smoking policy which includes the deck areas and we are unable to accommodate pets or children.

Eco Policy:
We aim to be as enviromentally responsible as possible and hope our guests will help with this. We recycle our glass newspapers clean paper cans and plastic bottles including milk containers and would ask guests to leave any of these items outside their rooms for us to collect. Our light bulbs have been changed to low energy bulbs wherever possible. We hope guests will help us by turning off lights as well as tv standby buttons when these are not required. The central heating radiators have individual thermostats for guests to set to their most comfortable level. The cold taps in the shower rooms and kitchen areas are all on a mains supply for drinking water thus removing the need for bottled water. The laundry of towels and bedding creates one of our greatest environmental impacts. To reduce this impact our policy is to change your towels and bed linen after four nights. The heated towel rails in the en suites should keep your towels fresh and warm.

Mobility Description:
We have level parking at the top of our drive in front of the house with the guest entrance a few yards level walk away. The bedrooms are on the ground floor and are designed as bed sitting rooms with en suite shower rooms. Since breakfast is provided to be eaten in the room or on your deck your entire stay at Amberton will be on one level. There is one step up to the front door and one step down onto the private decks. All doorways are wide enough for wheelchair access as is the entrance hall leading to both bedrooms. The Bossington room has a large en suite shower room with a shower cubicle equipped with a seat and a support rail. Although we do not participate in the National Accessible Scheme both rooms meet many of the standards for Older and Less Mobile Guests under the scheme and the Bossington room meets many of those required for Part-time Wheelchair Users. Please phone us on 01643 862194 to discuss your requirements and how we may be able to meet them.
