Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, in the heart of the arid Little Karoo, is one of South Africa's largest privately owned wildlife reserves. Situated at the foot of the towering Warmwaterberg Mountains, Sanbona boasts 54 000ha of undulating mountains and plains, indigenous flora and fauna, rock formations and rare examples of San rock art, some dating back more than 3 500 years. Close to Montagu on the famous Route 62, Sanbona offers a unique wildlife experience, with over 650 plant species, 200 bird species and
a wide range of mammals and reptiles. Sanbona is proud to have nearly the only free roaming, self sustaining White Lions in the world.
The Northern section of the Reserve accommodates the hospitality lodges and has seen the
introduction of predators and big game. The Bellair Dam, dating back to 1922, is one of the most fascinating landmarks on Sanbona. Hand built by local farmers and labourers, it was mostly used for irrigation purposes and has a surface area of 186ha when full.
Although the traditional Big 5 are present at Sanbona, the vastness of the land gives so much more reward when you discover these rarities.
