People have been falling in love with Es Moli for years. One look and you’ll understand why. Set against a mountain backdrop of pine-clad peaks and terraced olive and lemon groves, its location is superb and it offers extensive views of the hillsides and valley down to the sea. Es Moli is a former grand country mansion. It’s textbook Spain with balustraded balconies, window shutters and bursts of bougainvillea. And it’s cocooned in shady gardens filled with secluded nooks perfect for curling up with a good book.

Beautiful terraced gardens enclose the large, attractive swimming pool – fed by mountain streams –which is the focal point not to mention a sun trap. Although it’s about four kilometres to the nearest pebble beach, a courtesy bus will take you off to Es Moli’s own exclusive cove with a platform where you can swim and snorkel. There’s a snack bar, loungers, changing rooms and showers there, too. What’s more, the hotel is just 15-minutes stroll away from the ancient village of Deia, to which it belongs, one of the island’s most picturesque villages. It’s been a favourite haunt of writers and artists since Robert Graves set up home there back in 1935.

Es Molí has a total of 87 rooms, comprising suites, single and double rooms. All its rooms are equipped with a mini-bar, telephone, satellite TV and air-conditioning. The deluxe bathrooms have toiletries, a hair dryer, bathrobes and slippers. Most rooms have a balcony or terrace, and all have views of the sea, mountains or gardens. Fifteen of the hotel’s double rooms and one single room are in the annex, reached along a path and up very steep steps past the tennis court. As a result, they have particularly splendid views but do not offer room service.

The Restaurant Buganvilia, in the hotel itself, serves the half board set menus.  Restaurant Can Quet is open from May to September and offers an a-la-cart service specializing in Mallorcan cuisine, with delicious fish and meat dishes. A Tapas Bar is also open from June to September. Twice a week evening meals are accompanied by music.
