Located conviniently in the triangle between Market Drayton Whitchurch and Shrewsbury only minutes from the A41 and the A49 and 20 minutes from the M6. We are a small pub nestled in the historic Shropshire countryside as well as a traditional bar with roaring log fires we have a restaurant boasting an inspiring menu with all ingredients sourced locally and prepared in-house. Upstairs there are 7 newly-refurbished guest bedrooms and a striking grand 16th century hall ideal for a variety of funtions. The bedrooms all contain their own coffee/tea making facilities as well as wall-mounted flat screen TVs with freeview and DVD player built-in. Guests can unwind in 'The Lounge' with its own fire and complimentary newspapers and have a drink (or two) from the bar. Room prices include breakfast we offer a full English breakfast or cereals. There is also free WI-FI. The building has many enchanting secrets such as the former Bear Pit with secret passageways leading to the village church and Hodnet Hall. Hodnet derives from the ancient Welsh phrase hawdd nant meaning pleasant valley and the surrounding countryside reflects this magnificently. The Bear provides an ideal homely base to explore these magical settings with Hodnet Gardens located only accross the road Hawkstone Hall and its Follies a 5 minute drive away. For the more active there are several renowned golf courses nearby as well as The Midlands Shooting grounds.
There are 7 en-suite bedrooms all newly re-furbished with en-suites upstairs. There are double rooms twin rooms single rooms and family rooms. In our annexe next door there are two suites suitable for 3 and 4 people respectively. Both with space for a cot. All include coffe/tea making facilities and flat screen TVs with built in freeview and DVD players. There is also a stunning function room with a capacity for 60 seated or 100 standing.
There are two meeting rooms. Our main room can accommodate up to 90 people with a stage at one end and bar at the other. All normal conference facilities are available for your use and the room can be arranged to suit your needs. We also have a smaller room that can accommodate up to 12 people and is ideal for a local meeting. Full catering can be provided if required or just afternoon tea or morning coffee.

- The restaurant area is filled with roaring log fires exposed oak beams and old oak flooring. All produce is delivered fresh daily and sourced locally. The menu ranges from traditional pub food to more adventurous dishes and these all change on a regular basis. There are always vegetarian options as well as fish and meat dishes. Alyn the head chef has won 'Cheshire Dining pub of the year' on several occasions and hopes to add 'Shropshire Dining pub of the year' to the list.
